Telemancer Logo, 2021

Graphic Design

I designed and developed the logo for “Telemancer: September’s Story” as part of ATEC’s Game Lab course in Fall 2021.

The logo was used as part of the marketing strategy and within the game as part of its official visual identity.

Early on, the art director and the art team determined the overall look and feel for the game. I drew several ideation sketches that incorporated important narrative and gameplay details into the logo while falling in line with the overall artistic vision. The team was looking to play with glowing lighting, and strong geometric shapes in environment design. The overall color palette would mix warm and cool colors. And finally, the character would activate their teleportation magic with a snap of the fingers in order to traverse difficult obstacles.

I explored concepts that utilized a dynamic snapping silhouette, the rune stones present in the game, and the idea of teleportation through my sketches. I worked first with exploring different visual concepts and shapes before moving onto how I might place text.

After narrowing down the sketches to a few concepts, I began work on creating a logo with a clear and visible silhouette. Eventually, I would begin to consider a color palette that matched with the magical components of the game.

We really enjoyed the active nature of using the snap as part of the logo, and advanced with that concept. I initially worked with a monochromatic palette to help with blocking in shapes, though I played with color palettes in sketches.

Initial block-out of the snapping hand felt stiff, and I began to pull new references. I looked at real-life hands, studying their shapes before also taking a look at stylized illustrations of hands to see how experienced illustrators and artists injected the feeling of motion into the still image of a hand.

The final logo was utilized within the shipped version of the game and the marketing collateral. A green and gold alternative logo was created for use in-game after playing with palettes that mirrored the game environment.
